DCC Women's basketball signs Taylure Svejkovsky

BUTTE, Mont. — Former Butte Central guard Taylure Svejkovsky (sheh-KAHV'-skee) has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Dawson Community College in Glendive.

Svejkovsky averaged just under 2 points per game as Central won the Class A state championship this winter and was a key contributor on defense, but she hadn't planned on playing basketball in college.

Svejkovsky tells The Montana Standard says she made up her mind late last month to join coach Tracey Clingingsmith's team.

Jaci Hanley, All-State First Baseman, Signs With the Lady Bucs

Jaci Hanley with her Butte High team won the state Class AA championship this spring.

BUTTE, Mont. — Recent Butte High graduate Jaci Hanley says she has signed a scholarship offer to play softball at Dawson Community College in Glendive.

Hanley was an all-state first baseman as Butte High won the state Class AA championship this spring. She is also a designated hitter and outfielder and batted .328 as a senior.

Dawson head coach Jim LeProwse, a former Butte Central assistant, tells The Montana Standard he is also considering using Hanley as a pitcher.

Dawson Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

Volleyball Team 2010-2011

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced that Dawson Community College women’s volleyball team was among those to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2010-2011 season.  “Our Lady Buccaneers are one of only 12, two year schools in the nation to receive the award” said DCC Coach John Marble. “I am proud of their exceptional effort! They maintained a 3.34 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during the school year.”

Dickinson State signs Buccaneer James Steen

The Dickinson State men’s basketball team has announced the signing of four players for the 2011-12 season.

Former 6'-4" Buccaneer Forward James Steen was one of the players selected for next years Hawk squad. 

Steen, originally from Detroit averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds per game for Dawson Community College and possesses the ability to play multiple positions.

2010-2011 NJCAA Academic Awards Released

The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced the 2010-11 Academic Student-Athlete Awards as well as  the 2010-2011 NJCAA All-Academic Teams. The 2010-2011 season marks the 28th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes the NJCAA program has been in place since 1983.

Gilson Heading to the CNFR

The Dawson Community College Rodeo team will finish their season with the college national finals rodeo June 12-18 in Casper, Wyoming. In each event, the top three individuals from the region advance to the finals. Although DCC had several individuals in the top ten, only Jodi Gilson placed in the top three to advance on to the finals. Jody is a sophomore competing in the the barrel racing from Quesnel, BC, Canada. Congratulations to the DCC team for a great year and good luck to Jody.

Softball All-Conference Selections

The 2011 Mon-Dak all-conference softball team has recently been announced with several members of the DCC team being on the list. They include Lauren Binkoski, Nicole Miller, and Jordyn Aberle. Congratulations to the girls as they finished second place in the Mon-Dak with a 5-2 record.

Jenni Pehler and Allison Roper Sign with Jamestown College

Head softball coach Jim LeProwse  recently announced  that sophomores Jenni Pehler and Allison Roper have signed letters of intent to play softball for Jamestown College.  Jamestown, a four year NAIA college, competes in the Dakota Athletic Conference.

Registration is under way at Dawson Community College for Basketball Skills Camps and Volleyball Camps to be held on campus in Toepke Center.

The camps for boys and girls have an excellent staff and an affordable price. Coaches from the Dawson Community College Athletic programs as well as DCC players from the Buccaneer teams will instruct the participants.
