Summer fun! Youth Camps at DCC

Camp registration is under way!

Registration is under way at Dawson Community College for Basketball Skills Camps and Volleyball Camps to be held on campus in Toepke Center.

The camps for boys and girls have an excellent staff and an affordable price. Coaches from the Dawson Community College Athletic programs as well as DCC players from the Buccaneer teams will instruct the participants.

Middle School Camp
Coach Marble and his staff will give hands-on training in all the basics of volleyball for middle school players. Middle school camp is set for July 26-27 at the DCC Toepke Center gym from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a one-hour break at noon. Cost is $65 and includes a t-shirt.

The Mon-Dak Athletic Conference has announced its fall 2009-10 academic award selections. Twenty-nine student athletes from Dawson Community College earned academic recognition. Of special note,  DCC had more students honored than any other college in the 8 member Mon-Dak Conference.  The conference includes Bismarck State College, North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, United Tribes Technical College, Lake Region State College, Miles City Community College, Williston State College and Dakota College at Bottineau.

Dawson Community College is once again adding honor and memorial names to the hardwood floor of the Toepke Center Gymnasium. Names will be printed in 1 inch letters around the main court for a $200 per name donation. Honoring a friend or relative in this way is a unique tribute and a lasting legacy that lends support to all Buccaneer athletic programs.

Volleyball 2nd in the Nation for academic excellence

DCC women's volleyball team

Joyce Ayre Dawson Community College Athletic Director is proud to announce the Women’s Buccaneer Volleyball team has been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as second in the nation for academic excellence.

DCC Women’s Volleyball Head Coach, John Marble, is excited and not completely surprised by the honor. “Academics have always been a focus of this program, we believe that you can be successful in the classroom and on the court. This is a huge honor and it validates the attitudes and efforts of the players.”

DCC Volleyball Tryouts Set

“It’s a great opportunity to get in the gym and play and get information on what it’s like to play in college”.

Tryouts have been set for the Dawson Community College volleyball team. Coach John Marble invites all high school players to join the Lady Buccaneers at the Toepke Center at 2 p.m. Feb. 8. “It’s a great opportunity to get in the gym and play and get information on what it’s like to play in college,” he said. “It’s a chance to see firsthand what college athletics is all about.”

Volleyball player headed to university squad

Freshman Ariel Johnson was recruited by Coach Katie Howells from the University of Montana Western in Dillon.

Freshman Ariel Johnson was recruited by Coach Katie Howells from the University of Montana Western in Dillon.
She said she will begin school in Dillon after Christmas.
"I feel like it's kind of a step up going to a four-year program," she said.
Johnson, a Kalispell native, said she looks forward to being closer to her home town with the move.
Also, she said, she looks forward to playing for a bigger school.

Volleyball Freshman shines

Myriam Lebied-Julien the freshman from Riom, France, was nicknamed Frenchie by her team.

Frenchie can hit. When Myriam Lebied-Julien signed on with the Buccaneer volleyball team, the freshman from Riom, France, nicknamed "Frenchie" by her teammates, expected to play as a setter. After all, that was her specialty. Or so she had been told. But it wasn't long after fall training camp began for the Dawson Community College women that Coach John Marble said Julien's talent as a hitter began to show. "We realized that she could contribute as an outside hitter," Marble said. "She reads the court very well and can find the open spot on the floor.

Volleyball Sophomores prepare for final matches

Three Buccaneer volleyball players will participate in their last matches at the Toepke Center this weekend.

They are the last of the first – the only players from the 2008 inaugural team at Dawson Community College to return for a second season – the majority of the team graduated last spring.

Buccaneers play for pink; lose close match to Bismarck

When Lady Buccaneer Kirby Sabec went up for an attack during Monday night's Dig Pink match, she wasn't just looking for a kill. She was swinging for money.

Dawson Community College took on Bismarck State College in Mon-Dak Conference play at the Toepke Center, dedicating the night to Dig Pink, a national breast cancer awareness rally promoted by the Side-Out Foundation.
