Dawson Community College announces a faculty opening as an instructor in Biological Sciences and Allied Health to begin in the 2013-2014 academic year. Dawson Community College is a small, rural community college located in Glendive, Montana with an enrollment of approximately 300 full time students. Glendive is the twelfth largest community in Montana, and is located in the Badlands of Eastern Montana, twenty miles from the North Dakota border.

Position Summary:

  • Instructor:          Biological Sciences and Allied Health
  • Appointment:      Full-time, Nine-month
  • Starting Date:     August 21, 2013
  • Losing Date:       Position is open until filled

Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in Biological Sciences and Allied Health, including general education requirements and program core courses and electives.
  • Provide instruction to students on weekdays, weekends, and online as necessary.
  • Comply with duties and procedures associated with the college mission.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, coordination of activities, curriculum development and assessment, and college wide committees. Assist with registration and advising of students.
  • Assist with recruitment of students into the department.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development activities.
  • Ability to maintain communication with stakeholders within the community, state, and region.

Minimum Qualifications: Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field with an approved Plan of Study to attain a Master’s Degree in Biology within three years of initial hire.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach college level Anatomy and Physiology for Health Science majors.
  • Commitment to integrated lab component to the biology curriculum.
  • Three years teaching experience.
  • Personal philosophy that is consistent with teaching in a small, rural community college.
  • Proven ability to teach adults and non-traditional students.

Preferred Qualifications: All the minimum qualifications plus the following:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Biology or related field or Master’s Degree with 18 graduate credits in Biological or Health Sciences.
  • Ability to develop new courses in Biology or Allied Health fields.
  • Ability to develop new Associate of Applied Science programs.
  • Three years community college teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach alternative delivery methods, i.e., interactive television, internet, etc.

Applicants will be required to provide evidence of qualifications. Finalists shall be required to demonstrate teaching style and ability. Official transcripts will be required prior to employment.

Salary: On schedule, plus benefits.
