Students who are beyond the age of compulsory attendance and without a high school diploma or GED may be admitted to Dawson Community College under the Ability-To-Benefit criteria. Students admitted under ATB, who first enroll in a program of study on or after July 1, 2012 are not eligible for financial aid.
Ability-To-Benefit options are:
1. Taking the ACT COMPASS Math, Reading and Writing Placement Tests. Students must achieve or exceed the minimum scores on each subtest in a single testing experience. The minimum scores for the three subtests of the Ability-To-Benefit Test are:
| Subject | Score |
| Writing | 32 |
| Reading | 62 |
| Pre-algebra | 25 |
Initial testing is free; for subsequent testing a fee of $15.00 will be assessed for each administration of the test.
2. Satisfactory completion of 6 credit hours which are applicable to a Dawson Community College degree or certificate.
