Position Summary:
Pending successful funding, the Campus Corps AmeriCorps program will address gaps in college access and success programming in communities throughout Montana, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah. AmeriCorps members will support and build capacity for projects focusing on unmet needs related to college access, post-secondary readiness, college success, and career preparation.
The Campus Compact advances the public purposes of colleges and universities by deepening their ability to improve community life and to educate students for civic and social responsibility. As the largest higher education network in Montana, the Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) is committed to service, service-learning, volunteerism, and civic engagement programming available to students, faculty, and staff. With the launch of college access and success programming, MTCC will expand its impact across the region.
Position Goals:
Promote college access and success among rural, tribal, and frontier communities throughout the Northern Rockies/Great Plains region.
Increase college enrollment for economically disadvantaged youth.
Prepare priority students for successful college and professional careers.
Position Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management
Build volunteer infrastructure for existing college access programs, such as TRIO, Upward Bound, KnowHow2Go, and GEAR UP, etc.
Work with post-secondary faculty and staff to recruit college students to serve as mentors to high school youth and college student peers.
Coordinate trainings, workshops, college visits, and other events for volunteers, students, and site supervisors.
Manage volunteers to achieve program goals.
Coordinate National Service Day projects.
For example: Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service; 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance; Global Youth Service Day in April; National Volunteer Week in April; AmeriCorps Week in May; National Preparedness Month all of September; National Public Lands Day in September; Make a Difference Day in October; and Disability Mentoring Day in October.
Mentoring
Provide one-on-one mentoring services to high school and college students to promote college access and academic success.
Possible tasks include meeting regularly with students to provide assistance with current coursework, standardized test preparation, campus visit coordination, financial aid advising, career counseling, and help in navigating the college admissions process.
Program Development
Develop mentoring projects and resources for students to help them navigate the college admissions process and achieve academic success.
Broaden support for the college access program among colleges, high schools, nonprofit organizations/community partners, and the public.
Training
Participate in required training events during the course of the year.
Communication
Maintain clear and regular communication with the host campus and high school supervisor, where applicable.
Other
Supplemental duties as specified by the local campus and/or high school.
