An internship in Senator Jon Tester’s Washington, D.C. office provides a unique opportunity to observe the workings of the U.S. Senate first-hand and to learn about government through public service. Interns work side-by-side with Capitol Hill staffers – applying knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations.
Details:
• A semester-long internship in Senator Tester’s official Senate office located in Washington, DC.
• Responsibilities include attending hearings and briefings, researching legislation, and assisting with constituent services.
• Interns may develop their own policy focus, attending briefings and conducting research in that area. Our staff will work with you to ensure you have a full and rewarding experience on Capitol Hill!
Qualifications:
Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be:
• At least 18 years old
• Willing to commit to a semester-long program
• There is special consideration for applicants from Montana, but all are encouraged to apply!
Education:
High School Diploma
Currently enrolled in college

Internships are unpaid; however, interns are eligible to receive college credit (subject to college/university approval)

Requirements
To apply for an internship, it is important to complete and submit the following by December 15:
• Resume with cover letter
• Completed application.
o Applications can be found at www.tester.senate.gov under the “Services” tab
• 3 letters of recommendation
• A writing sample of up to two pages (optional)

All applicants will be screened first by the required documents submitted. Based on review of all applicants, Senator Tester’s office will select and notify candidates to be interviewed. Each internship opening will be filled based on the interviews of all candidates.
