CASA of Montana, together with local programs, supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes. CASA was created in 1977 to make sure that abused and neglected children do not suffer at the hands of the court system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court, ensuring they are placed into safe and loving homes where they can thrive. CASA of Montana is seeking a VISTA to expand capacity for its programs and build needed infrastructure to expand its volunteer base. This will assure that every abused and neglected child has access to a CASA who can advocate on their behalf and assure they have access to the programs and services which promote their safety, health, and need for stability and permanency.

The CASA of Montana and CASA Advocates for Kids VISTA member will develop a comprehensive and standardized on-line training model to allow for more flexible volunteer training. Implementation of this type of training will allow flexibility in how volunteers complete training given varying schedules and geography. The VISTA member would research other programs that have successfully implemented online training modules, develop curriculum, and develop the resources to implement the system. These efforts will ensure that neglected and abused children involved in the court system receive the best services possible and have optimistic futures ahead of them.
