YWCA Missoula is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. YWCA Missoula was founded in 1911 and has served the needs of women and children in Missoula for over 100 years. Today, YWCA Missoula is a human services and human rights organization providing services and advocacy through six main programs. The Pathways Program which serves survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children by providing immediate shelter, food, and safety to women fleeing violent situations. Its Children's Program provides intervention and prevention services to children staying at the shelter. YWCA seeks a VISTA to explore the impacts of domestic violence on children and educate the community on the issue.

The goal of this VISTA project will be to provide information about the impacts of domestic violence on children, educate the community on this social issue and increase access to resources for victims of domestic violence and their children, and ultimately reduce domestic and sexual violence in the Missoula community. The VISTA will perform a needs assessment of the Children's Program to identify specific gaps and needs in the services provided, research best practices and procedures for children's programs in domestic violence shelters, recruit at least 10 new volunteers for the Pathways children's program, help increase the Children's Program financial capacity, and provide education and outreach throughout the community Missoula community.
