Dawson Community College volleyball coach John Marble’s recruiting efforts continue to pay off with the commitment of a fourth freshman for the fall squad.
Garfield County District High School Senior Alyson Murnion signed with the Lady Buccaneers this week.
“Aly is a natural athlete with tons of untapped potential,” Marble said.
Murnion is a 5-10 middle hitter with Class C all-conference honors in both 2007 and 2008.
During her high school career, she was named best offensive player and outstanding freshman for the Mustangs.
Murnion said she looks forward to playing for DCC, where she anticipates moving to an outside position.
“I live the game of volleyball and have always wanted to play at the college level,” she said. “Dawson made this happen for me.”
Also, Murnion said, she was attracted to the opportunity to begin her college career at a smaller school.
“DCC offers the classes I need to work toward a degree in history education,” she said.
Murnion joins Yellowstone County Senior Amanda Little, Hardin Senior Kirby Sabec and Cascade County Senior Amanda Krone on the list of freshman recruits for the Bucs.
Canadian hitter Amanda Shadbolt is expected to return to the team this fall, along with setter Terah Lund of Huntley and hitter Melissa Yarbrough of Eugene, Ore.
Both Shadbolt and Lund spent time on the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national rankings, Shadbolt for service aces and Lund for assists.
Tryouts for the DCC volleyball team are set for Monday, Feb. 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Toepke Center.
All interested high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to take the opportunity to show off their volleyball skills for Coach Marble.
