Dawson Community College volleyball has signed a new setter from France to play for the Lady Buccaneers this fall.
Myriam Lebied-Julien will be coming to DCC from Riom, France, and said she is thrilled for the chance to play volleyball, a passion of hers for eight years, abroad.
"It's a big opportunity to play and study in a college," she said.
"In France, it's difficult to reconcile both." Coach John Marble said Lebied-Julien, who stands at 5'8", will be an asset for the team.
"Myriam brings added experience to the Buccaneer volleyball program and provides us with great depth at the setting position for the next two years". The Bucs have two other setters on the roster -- returning sophomore Terah Lund of Huntley and new recruit Amanda Krone of Cascade.
They join returning outside hitter Amanda Shadbolt of Saskatchewan, Canada, and recruits Amanda Little of Billings, a middle and right side, Alyson Murnion of Jordan, an outside hitter and Kirby Sabec of Hardin, also a middle.
Marble said training camp begins Aug. 1 and he is talking with more players about recruitment, hoping to produce a deeper bench for the Lady Bucs.
"We are excited about the upcoming year" he said.
The team competes in the Mon-Dak conference as well as Region IX of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
This is just the second season for the program at DCC; the team finished last year with a 3-28 record but also produced the NJCAA's number one ace server, Ruth Johnson.
Shadbolt and Lund also spent time on the NJCAA¹s national rankings list, Shadbolt for ace serves and Lund for setting.
