Cole Burman, DCC alumnus, of Glendive recently had a couple of nice paydays after competing in the bull riding at the Sidney fair and the Glasgow fair.
At the Richland County Fair and Rodeo in Sidney, Burman scored a 79 on Spin Doctor to take top honors in the bull riding. Burman followed that performance up with a 2nd place finish in the bull riding at the Northeast Montana Fair and Rodeo in Glasgow. Burman claimed $1485.99 and $866 in prize money respectively at these two events.
Other area cowboys who placed at the Sidney rodeo were Beau Franzen, Rod Paschke and Layne and Parker Murnion.
Franzen from Sidney and Paschke from Terry tied for second in the steer wrestling with a time of 4.4. Each cowboy got a check for $1394.00 for his efforts.
The Murnions paired up in the team roping. Their time of 5.9 was good enough for 5th place and $418.95. They are from Jordan.
Two area cowgirls and one area cowboy joined Burman in placing at the Glasgow rodeo held Aug. 9-10. Teresa Wolff from Circle and Jackie Bisom from Ekalaka were both placers in the barrel racing. Wolff clocked a run of 17.79, well enough for a tie for third. Bisom finished 7th with a time of 17.96. Franzen again placed in the steer wrestling. This time around he turned in a time of 3.8, which placed him second.
The unofficial 2009 standings of the Montana PRCA Pro Rodeo Circuit through Aug. 10 were just released. Six area cowboys and cowgirls made the list of the top 15.
Beau Franzen is leading the All-Around standings with $12,828 in earnings. Franzen is currently second in both the steer wrestling and the tie down events.
Sylvan La Cross from Baker sits in 12th place in the bareback riding. Rod Paschke is in the 6th spot in steer wrestling and has earned $4,496. Rayna Rice from Sidney has earned $3,040 in the WPRA barrel racing. Rice is now in 9th place for the season.
