The Dawson Community College volleyball team is headed to North Dakota this weekend for a triangular tournament at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, and Coach John Marble said his team is ready to snap a string of losses.
"We are excited to be playing at Trinity this weekend," he said. "This weekend provides us with a great opportunity to pick up some wins."
The Lady Bucs will be competing against Trinity and the Jamestown College JV team.
The women returned home early Tuesday morning from a difficult match in Powell, Wyoming, against Region IX's Northwest College, where Marble said even though his team did not pick up the win, he was proud of their performance.
"We showed up and played probably the best volleyball in program history in terms of competitiveness, aggressiveness and desire to win," he said. "It was absolutely outstanding. At the end of the day, we got out played, but we played to win."
The Bucs, now 0-12 on the season, lost in three games to Northwest, one of the top teams in the region.
Sophomore Amanda Shadbolt led the team offensively with five kills, followed by sophomore Terah Lund and freshman Megan Young with three kills each.
Marble said the players came on to the court with a renewed determination to win.
"We came out on the court believing that we were going to win," he said. "We lived by a never say die mind set. We chased every ball down. We communicated and played well on the court. I'm super proud of every single one of our players. "With what seems to have been an ever-changing roster so far this season, along with players working in various positions, Marble said the women have had to adapt to a lot.
"They've done what's asked of them and never complained," he said. "Everyone's contributing. Some in little ways and some in bigger ways, but always contributing."
