Amanda Shadbolt number 3 shows leadership and an aggressive playing style along with teammates

Dawson Community College sophomore Amanda Shadbolt is the Mon-Dak conference volleyball player of the week. The 5-11 Canadian hitter is in her second year with the Buccaneer program and was recognized after a stand-out week of play for the Bucs.

She racked up 33 kills, six blocks, 22 digs, five aces and four assists over five matches for the team last week. Shadbolt, speaking from the Wyo-Braska Shootout in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Thursday said she was honored by the news of the conference pick.

"I never really expected things to turn out this way for me," she said. "It feels good to know that all my hard work and training and practicing is finally paying off. It’s an awesome feeling, one that I can’t describe."

Coach John Marble said Shadbolt’s honor is a first for the program, which is in its second year at DCC. "I’m thrilled," he said. "We had been talking about her stepping up in terms of aggressiveness and leadership and she really stepped up and did that for us, especially in Ellendale," he said, referring to the Trinity Bible Tournament where the Bucs picked up two wins. "She was real solid all week long. She has worked hard for us for two years. She deserves it."

Shadbolt last season spent time on the National Junior College Athletic Association¹s national rankings list for services aces and this year, is starting to pile up statistics again, emerging on to the NJCAA Region IX rankings list in several categories. She is ranked 17th in service percentage with 94 percent and 13th in aces per game with 21 aces in 51 games. Shadbolt is ranked for kills per game, totaling 80 kills so far on the season, and also for most points serving in a match with 14 against Briercrest. She graduated high school from Humboldt Collegiate Institute in Humboldt, Sask.
