During the month of September, Holly Dershem-Bruce, Dawson Community College Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Program Director, received dual Gold Medal Faculty Awards for online instruction. Dershem-Bruce has been Program Director at DCC since 1993 and continues to go “above and beyond” teaching both online and on-campus classes.
Nominated in both departments for a second time, she was recognized for improving the quality of her online classes in the areas of political science and criminal justice and for delivering a superior instructional experience to her students.
Dershem-Bruce was praised by the chair of her Social Sciences Department for her use of various instructional techniques such as discussion groups. The Criminal Justice Department chair noted that she went “beyond what was expected for instruction” when she helped identify and address some non-academic issues that were impacting the online courses. The department chairs also credited Dershem-Bruce with lending her years of experience to fellow online instructors who needed extra assistance with their courses.
Online courses taught by Holly Dershem-Bruce thru DCC’s online education provider, CCCOnline, include POS 111 American Government and CRJ 220 Human Relations and Social Conflict. Similar courses can be taken from her on-campus.
