The Buccaneer women lost Friday and Saturday at the Mon-Dak tournament in Williston. Friday the Dawson Community College women dropped an 81-57 decision to North Dakota State College of Science. The Buccaneers fell to Dakota College at Bottineau Saturday by the final score of 64-53. DCC finished the tourney 0-3.
On Friday, NDSCS was led by Groen who scored 27 against the Women of DCC. The Buccaneers did have three players in double figures. Brittney Ceaser was their top point getter with 15. Juliane Faltus had 11 while Tia Emerson added 10. Krista Williams and Ceaser led the team rebounding with nine and seven respectively.
“We came out and had a hard time finding a way to score. We were missing four offensive minded kids this past weekend due to injuries and we just didn’t have enough experienced players on the floor that knew how to create,” Coach Tracey Clingingsmith said.
She also said: “Although the score didn’t show it, we had some positive minutes from the bench and Dawson will be deeper than they have been in the past.”
In the second game, Dakota outscored the Bucs 31-23 in the second half to post the 11-point win. DCC trailed by just three, 33-30, at the break. Williams was the top scorer for the Bucs with 16. Ceaser added 15 for DCC. Game-high honors went to Scherr from Bottineau. She finished the contest with 19 points. Williams also led Dawson in rebounds with seven boards. Faltus also reached double-digits in scoring for DCC. Faltus ended the game with 11 points.
