Tryouts have been set for the Dawson Community College volleyball team. Coach John Marble invites all high school players to join the Lady Buccaneers at the Toepke Center at 2 p.m. Feb. 8. “It’s a great opportunity to get in the gym and play and get information on what it’s like to play in college,” he said. “It’s a chance to see firsthand what college athletics is all about.”
Players will perform both individual skills and team drills, along with physical testing in areas such as speed and vertical. “This is a great chance to show off their abilities,” Marble said, adding that the tryout is not limited to just this year’s seniors, but younger players who may have an interest in collegiate volleyball are welcome as well. He said he hopes to see local participation. “We really encourage players from the area to come out,” he said. “We’re always looking to represent Eastern Montana on our roster.” While there are several returners on the roster for the fall, Marble said he welcomes players for all positions. “We can always use middles, and we’re down two setters,” he said, adding, “We really need players that can control the ball. We need people that can pass and play defense.”
The tryouts are set in conjunction with DCC’s Campus View Day, where prospective students are invited to campus to sample a day of college life.
More information on view day and the Buccaneer volleyball team is available online at www.dawson.edu. The Buccaneer volleyball team also has a fan page on Facebook. Marble can also be reached by calling (406) 377-9498.
The Lady Buccaneers compete in the Mon-Dak conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association¹s Region IX North conference, which includes teams from Wyoming and Montana. The program is entering its third year at DCC.
