McKay Hedin

Dawson Community College Head Baseball Coach Brent Diegel is excited to announce the signing of two outstanding student athletes for next season. McKay Hedin and Hunter Balmer, both from Utah, will join the Buccaneers clubhouse in the fall.

Hedin, a 5’11”, 185 pound left-handed outfielder and pitcher from Logan, Utah, comes to DCC with a distinguished high school baseball career. Twice he was voted as Logan High’s offensive MVP, earning All-Valley first team honors those same seasons. As a junior, Hedin was voted second team All-State. Last season, as a senior, he was honored with a first team All-State selection. In 24 games, he batted .393 with a .459 on base percentage, and led the Grizzlies with 8 homeruns, 32 RBIs, 6 doubles and 2 triples. On the mound, he went 3-0 with a save and posted a miniscule 1.67 ERA, striking out 30 and walking just 8 in 21 innings of work. “McKay will add a good left-handed bat to our lineup next year,” said Coach Diegel. “He will also log some innings for us out of the bullpen.” While at DCC, Hedin plans to major in secondary education.

Hunter Balmer

Balmer, from Brigham City, Utah, stands an imposing 6’2” and 205 pounds. The right hander will play first base and pitcher for the Buccaneers. Last season, as a junior for the Box Elder High School Bees, Hunter hit .440 with a .508 on base percentage. He demonstrated his power by hitting nine homeruns and adding 20 doubles. Balmer was also dominant on the mound, striking out 63 and walking just 22 in 73 innings, on the way to posting an outstanding 1.91 ERA. “Hunter will be a great asset to our program,” commented Coach Diegel. “He brings power and a good sense of the game. He will also see some time on the mound for us, working from the bullpen.” Balmer, an honor roll student with a 3.3 GPA, plans to study general education while at DCC. He will join current Box Elder teammate Jesse Gullion and former teammate and current DCC Buccaneer Bobby King on the roster.
