Mr. Jim Squires fortitude as a lifelong learner mirrors the charge for continued achievement and excellence of our students.

The 69th Commencement exercises will be held May 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Toepke Center on the Dawson Community College Campus. Dr. Jim Cargill, President of Dawson Community College, the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and the Class of 2010 are proud to announce Jim Squires, long time proponent of higher education in Eastern Montana, as the keynote speaker for the 2010 exercises.

Dr. Cargill stated, "The Dawson Community College family is extremely proud of the stellar accomplishments of the graduating class of 2010. The choice for our keynote speaker this year was quite an easy task as Mr. Squires fortitude as a lifelong learner mirrors the charge for continued achievement and excellence that will be issued to this graduating class."

Squires graduated from MSU and U of Montana (both in Missoula) with B.A. degrees in Mathematics and Physical Sciences with a Minor in Geology and strong emphasis in foreign languages in 1964. He went on to study at the School for International Training in Brattleborough Vermont and at the Alliance Françoise in Paris.

Mr. Squires also works hard as an active member of the Glendive community. He has served on many boards in the 42 years since he returned from serving in the Peace Corps in Brazil. This board service includes three different school boards including Dawson Community College. He has also served on the local hospital board, the regional jail taskforce and a variety of agricultural industry boards including the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee, the Northern Pulse Growers Association, and U.S. Wheat Associates, The Northern Crops Council, and the Wheat Marketing Center Board to name just a few.

In addition, he is currently a member of Toastmasters, The Church of Christ, the Dawson County Education Foundation and the CEDAR Foundation, the Dawson County Coalition and the Glendive Ministerial Association.

His great sense of humor, accessibility, quickness, compassion and understanding of the human condition, willingness to help others within and outside of his immediate community, his intelligence and his tremendous commitment to family as a devoted husband, father and grandpa, all have solidified his position as keynote speaker for the 2010 Commencement exercises at DCC.
