Dawson Community College is looking to match a college student from Germany with a qualified host family for the 2010-2011 academic-year. Robin’s hometown is Eitorf, Germany. He will be attending DCC on a scholarship program funded by the U.S. Congress and German Parliament (Bundestag). In addition to taking classes in fall 2010 at the College, Robin will start a six-month paid internship beginning in January 2011.
Professional Field: Sheet Metal Worker/Welder
Background: Lives with his parents, has two older siblings and a great relationship with his family. He enjoys biking, working in the forest with his grandfather, listening to music and just being outdoors. Robin is looking forward to becoming a part of the family and/or community, improving his English and sharing the German culture. He has no allergies. Smokes outdoors only.
While the program is a cultural experience for the German participants, it is also an exciting opportunity for hosts! Individuals, couples, families with children, and grandparents can serve as hosts. A host should be interested in having a young German in their home for a year and want the opportunity to learn and share with their participant. Participants should be integrated into daily life. Hosts should expect participants to help out in the household and participate in family activities and celebrations.
Hosts can request a modest monthly stipend to offset the costs of providing two meals per day and a private bedroom. Individual costs such as telephone, special foods, and car insurance are the responsibility of the participant. All participants are required to buy a car, unless adequate public transportation is available.
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a reciprocal scholarship program funded by the U.S. Congress and German Parliament (Bundestag). Currently in its 27th year, the program annually brings 75 young German professionals to study at over 60 participating host colleges in 30 states. The CBYX is jointly administered by CDS International and the U.S. Department of State.
