Dawson Community College has once again honored the Lady Buccaneer Volleyball squad for their outstanding academic performance. The Women's 2009 team was recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as second in the nation for academic excellence. The minimum grade point average requirement for consideration is a team GPA of 3.00. Of 302 teams nationally, only 57 teams achieved the minimum standard of a 3.00 GPA for recognition. DCC is ranked 2nd overall with a team GPA of 3.68.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association also recognized the Lady Bucs with their prestigious AVCA Team Academic Award. They were one of only 8, 2 year colleges to be recognized. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Janelle Sheeran and Terah Lund were honored with Distinguished Academic All-American Awards.
Every single member of the 2009 Buccaneer Team earned Mon-Dak Conference Academic Recognition.
DCC Women's Volleyball Head Coach, John Marble, is excited and not completely surprised by the honor. "Academics have always been a focus of this program, we believe that you can be successful in the classroom and on the court. This is a huge honor and it validates the attitudes and efforts of the players."
"I am incredibly proud of the team - they worked very hard in the classroom as well as in the gym." said Marble.
