Williston, ND - The Buccaneers baseball team battled back from a 10-3 deficit in the third inning to beat Williston St. (ND) on the road. It was not a night for pitching for either team, as both offenses combined for 29 hits and 36 runs in the game. After trailing early in the game the buccaneers took a 17 -14 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, only to see it disappear with a three run homerun, tying the game 17-17. However, the offense was not done for the night, as the buccaneers put two more runs on the board in the top of the eighth inning to take a final 19-17 lead in the game.
Freshman Danny Smith (Tremonton, UT) was the starting pitcher. He went 1 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, five runs and received the no decision. Sophomore Bobby King (Brigham City, UT) pitched 2 innings in relief, and allowed seven runs on four hits and four walks. Freshman Andy Hopson (Ogden, UT) pitched 3 innings in relief, allowing 3 runs on three hits while striking out four. Freshman Jordan Thompson (West Jordan, UT) finished the night for the buccaneers, going 1 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits and getting his first win of the year.
Williston St. allowed nineteen runs on fourteen hits. Grant Geiser (Lovell, WY) pitched two innings in relief, allowing two runs and taking the loss.
Dawson Freshman Hunter Balmer (Brigham City, UT) went 1-3 with two runs scored. Freshman Austin Sheppick (West Jordan, UT) went 1-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Freshman Jesse Gullion (Brigham City, UT) went 1-4 with one run scored. Sophomore Chris Mjelstad (Billings, MT) went 1-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Dalton Aiken (Ogden, UT) went 2-6 with four RBI’s and two runs scored. Sophomore Tanner Newman (Bozeman, MT) went 2-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Mckay Hedin (Logan, UT) went 1-3 with two RBI’s and four runs scored. Jake Loundagin (Casper, WY) went 2-4 with three runs scored. Joe Binstock (Billings, MT) went 2-4 with four RBI’s and two runs scored.
The Buccaneers (22-11, 9-3) return to action this weekend, April 30 at home. They will be hosting Dakota College for a four game series.
