Celebration of Research and Creativity will be the theme for the DCC Music Department Spring performance Thursday, May 12. The evening will commence at 5 p.m. with a reception sponsored by the Opus Society, featuring student research projects encompassing a wide array of musical topics. The projects will be presented in poster presentation format and students will be available to discuss their research with guests.
Performance of recital solo work will begin at 6 p.m. in the DCC auditorium including works from Bach, Haydn, Schumann, Verdi, Grieg, and Pachelbel. Large ensembles, including choir, chamber, jazz band, and drumline, will follow the soloists after a short intermission.
This will be the official unveiling of the new grand piano purchased this semester. "DCC music students raised $2,500, half the required funds, over the past few years by selling concessions, or by hosting other events like Dawson Idol. The other half was a generous contribution by the Dawson College Foundation and the College itself." commented Lisa Shields, Program Director of Music Technology at DCC.
Students are enthusiastic about the purchase too. "The grand piano has really been, well, grand! It seems to have really brought up moral of not only the pianists, but the entire music department." said Katie Goreman Music Technology student.
The evening will conclude with dessert and coffee. The community is invited to join in the celebration of critical thinking and creativity. Contact Lisa Shields for more information at 377.9456.
