Brent Nelson Welding Instructor at DCC attended a Radiograph Interpreter Seminar June 13th through June 17th at Flathead  Valley Community College in Kalispell Mt. Radiographs are one of nine methods of non destructive evaluation that can be done on welds. The seminar was coordinated by FVCC staff and attended by 6 college welding instructors all from Montana. 

American Welding Society (AWS) adjunct instructor David Diaz instructed the class which included Radiograph Techniques, Film Interpretation, Quality Control methods, and proper methods of documentation. Instructor Diaz offers 40 years of experience in the Non-destructive examination of the welding.

The topics covered during the seminar included:

• Photographic aspects
• Fundamental aspects of radiographic quality
• Radiation safety principles
• X-ray and gamma ray equipment
• Effects of equipment change on radiographic quality
• Geometry of image formation
• Exposure calculations
• Application to welds
• Viewing radiographs
• Welding technology

Mr. Nelson commented on the valuable information that he obtained that can be utilized in future class taught at Dawson Community College.
