For the 14th straight year, the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is offering a leadership program to help create leaders and better business individuals in the community.

“It helps a new business person to be informative about the community” Wade VanEvery, chamber executive director, said. “It provides a way for them to acquire information that can help their business and hopefully the community.”

He notes younger leaders are needed in the area to take over the reigns and some responsibilities.

“Program participants will be exposed to all aspects of the community,” VanEvery said. “This will hopefully prepare them for a leadership role that they haven’t been in before.”

The Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture leadership program begins with an icebreaker on Sept. 7. VanEvery said applications for the program must be turned in by Sept. 1 at the very latest. Tuition is $200 for Sidney Chamber members and $250 for non-members.

Participants of the program can receive six business/communication credits from Dawson Community College if they pay the registration fee.

The program features seven day-long issue days held on Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Jan. 11, Feb. 8, March 14 and April 11. Topics include tourism and recreation; small business; agriculture; health and human services; government; education; and energy.

Leadership skills development seminars will include meeting facilitation, public speaking and leadership skills.

“I think there’s people who can add to the viability and great things we have here,” VanEvery said. “We really believe leadership is a help for all these means.”
