Buccaneers start nine new softball recruits Dawson Community College welcomes nine freshmen to campus in 2011-12 who will lend momentum to the upcoming Buccaneer softball program.

On a roster that currently features seven Sophomores, the Buccaneers continue to add to their foundation players. Among the 2011-2012 recruiting class are many Montana grown talents.

Originally from Shepherd, Mt., Outfield/Pitcher Elise Murray is one to watch as she takes the field for the Bucs this season.  Head DCC softball coach Jim LeProwse expects the Shepherd High School standout to be a big contributor this season "Elise has very good foot speed and great outfield abilities."

Also from Shepherd, Mt. Infield/Outfielder Maris
sa Cumber will join the rotation. "Look for Marissa to show up anywhere" said coach LeProwse "She has a great attitude, and great work ethic. Where ever I put Marissa she will get the job done."

Franque Robertson out of Terry, Mt. will redshirt this season.  Robertson decided to attend DCC after visiting the college many times for sports tournaments and FCCLA, "Everyone is so nice, it costs less and I get another year of softball under my belt before I transfer to a four year university!". LeProwse says "She works very hard"

The squad will feature more additions from Butte Mt. in the form of Shandy Holm and Jaci Hanley. Holm will perform catching duties for the Bucs. "She is a very alert player" said LeProwse. "Behind the plate she really takes control of the game."  Hanley, a highly touted hitter with a very strong arm, is expected to pull double duty this season on first base and in the pitchers circle. Coach LeProwse says that the Bucs expect big things from Hanley this year as she is a very talented player.

Kirsten Miller will be a "nice offensive weapon for DCC" said LeProwse. Coming to Glendive from Lewistown, Mt., "Miller is an outstanding clutch hitter with a great swing."

The Buccaneers further added to their infield depth with Keela Nedens from Billings, Montana. Nedens, whose capabilities will be exhibited at third base also swings the bat very well. She will be a great corner player for DCC. "Balls don't get past the infield on Keela's watch" LeProwse said.

Kayla Lake also provides a jolt of exuberance and quickness on the diamond. The Sidney Montana, recruit runs the bases with momentum and covers an unbelievable amount of ground at center field. Lake is also a very selective hitter and will take pitchers deep in the count almost every at bat.

Catcher Bailey Jackson comes to Dawson Community College from Rainier Or. on the banks of the Columbia River.  Coach LeProwse states that "Jackson is a forceful competitor and reliable catcher with a strong swing." She is one of two out of state softball players on the Lady Bucs roster this year. She will join Sophomore Jordyn Aberle, also from Oregon, on the diamond this season.
