Dawson Community College Buccaneers head baseball coach Aaron Carroll is pleased to announce the signing of five new Buccaneer recruits for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. Donning the black and red this semester will be Luis Rodriguez and Edwin Colon from Puerto Rico, Skyler Dietsche and Alex Lassle from Sheridan, WY and Joe Schafman from Yuma, AR.
"All of these players will provide us with more depth and stability" said Carroll. "These kids are great people and students, number one. The fact that they can also play the game of baseball is the icing on the cake! I feel like we are ready to play right now."
The Buccaneers have been on the field for three weeks practicing for their first game of the season against Eastern Utah Community College. The unusually temperate weather has given the Bucs an opportunity to practice outdoors.
Coach Carroll said he was impressed with the strong sophomore class returning. "This season we are led by Hunter Balmer, our shortstop, out of Brigham City, UT. In my opinion, he is one of the best players in the region if not the country. "Buccaneer Baseball is an evolving landscape. "Offensively and defensively we're very solid" continued Carroll. "Our pitching depth is a question. We do have some outstanding arms - Jordan Thompson from West Jordan, UT, Chance Anderson and Andy Hopson both from Ogden, UT will be our go to guys. Two freshmen, Josh Rustad a Polson, MT native and Marcus Loucks from Casper, WY are throwing the ball very well and will be expected to give us a lot of innings.
Coming from North Carolina in the Southeast, Coach Carroll has coached and seen many good teams. "I can honestly say that this Dawson Community College baseball team, is a GOOD team. I am "old school" and a fierce competitor on the field, but what makes this a good team is the fact that these kids are great students and citizens, first and foremost. Their hard work and determination, will translate into wins on the field."
