William Charles Harbort a.k.a. Billy Chuck is originally from New York where he worked as a commercial artist; a package designer for a major cosmetics company, an art director for a children's educational software company and an automotive magazine illustrator. Bill is currently a Professor in the art department at Minot State University. "Being a college professor has provided me the opportunity to explore.... my painting is driven by thoughts; commercial art, pop culture and bits of ephemera. Paint-by-numbers, coupons and clip art.... just a few ingredients often found in our popular culture landfill. I am fascinated with each individual ingredient and the infinite messages that can be expressed by combining and juxtaposing them through collage. It is through this process that I discover meaning and express thought. Allusion, suggestion and investigation become an important part of the viewing experience."
An additional event March 23 is the DCC Spring play "A Nice Family Gathering" a comedy by Phil Olson directed by Ron Conrad. Start time is 7pm-tickets sold at the door. Plan on coming to the artist reception for Bill Harbort and then head over to Toepke Center for an evening of laughs.
