Dawson Community College Board of Trustees are community leaders who desire to provide students with the academic skills needed to transfer to four-year colleges and universities, to enhance skills to be competitive in the rapidly changing job market, and to offer opportunities for continuing education, personal growth and enrichment. As a team, they are fully engaged in providing a future that offers increased higher education opportunities for Dawson County residents.

Fall Fun! Community Culinary Outreach Classes

Dawson Community College's Office of Community Outreach will be offering the following culinary classes throughout the fall. The classes listed below will be held on Sunday afternoons from 1pm-4pm with a limit of 12-18 students per class at Dawson County High School. No class is a prerequisite for any other and the cost will be $25 per class.

October 3: Knife Skills: How to identify the right knife for a task, how to sharpen a knife and keep them sharp and how to use them safely, efficiently and enjoyably.

AARP Defensive Driving Course October 14

One day workshop October 14th.

AARP’s (American Association of Retired Persons) Defensive Driving Course will once again offer a comprehensive driver retraining course geared to the specific needs of older motorists. Attending may qualify participants for a discount on auto insurance, check with your insurance company for details.

CNA-Certified Nurse Assistant Training

Certified Nurse Assistant Training Starts Oct 4

Students can learn the skills needed to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in classes offered by Dawson Community College and Glendive Medical Center October 4 through 26, 2010. Classes will be held at GMC and the Extended Care Facility from 5-9pm Monday-Thursday and 1:45-10pm Friday. Registered Nurse Donna Knuths teaches the course. Cost of the 4-credit, 80-hour course is $70.00, and enrollment is limited. The book is additional. Contact the DCC book store at 377-9457.

Mijalkovic named Mon-Dak volleyball player of the week

Mona Mijalkovic

The Mon-Dak volleyball player of the week is Mona Mijalkovic of Dawson Community College.  In last weeks matches she had 60 kills, 18 blocks, 7 digs and 1 assist.  She is a 6' Freshman right side hitter from Nis Serbia.

Growing Up WILD a Kurt Cunningham Workshop

Child Care Resourse and Referral and Dawson Community College will host Kurt Cunningham, an Education Specialist for Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. This workshop is an early childhood education program that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them.
Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about nature and lifelong social and academic skills. For teachers and parents of young children.

Schendel named Mon-Dak volleyball player of the week

For the week of September 6-12, 2010 Debbie Schendel, a 5' 7" outside hitter, has been named player of the week. In four matches last week, Debbie had 24 kills, 48 digs, 6 blocks, 3 assists, and 18 aces.  Debbie is a Freshman from Great Falls, Montana.

COLLEGE!NOW community listening sessions

The Commissioner of Higher Education, Sheila Stearns, will be conducting a series of community listening sessions across the state over the next few weeks.  Sixteen communities have been chosen to host the interactive events were the Commissioner will be joined by various members of the Board of Regents. The sessions are designed to allow individuals to voice concerns about the higher education system and to offer suggestions for its improvement.

The Real Legend of Sleepy Hollow at DCC Auditorium

The University of Montana’s Montana Repertory Theater proudly presents The Real Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

The University of Montana’s Montana Repertory Theater proudly presents The Real Legend of Sleepy Hollow, an adaptation for the stage written by Ron Fitzgerald.  The play is part of the Rep’s yearly Fall Educational Outreach Tour coming to Glendive on the Dawson Community College campus.  The performance is free and will take place at 6:30pm, September 24th in the DCC auditorium.

Jane Kitson, from Atlanta, GA will present  Leap Into Literacy.

On September 18, 2010, Dawson Community College will host a workshop for grade school teachers and early childhood professionals. Jane Kitson, from Atlanta, GA will be on campus to present Leap Into Literacy.
