Dawson Community College in Glendive Montana  and Olds College located in Alberta Canada have announced the details of an enhanced 2+2 agreement in Agriculture that offers students a competitive, streamlined opportunity to earn a Applied Bachelor's degree in Ag.

Agriculture department head at DCC, Leanne Hoagland, and Rob Eirich, business instructor, from Olds College have been working together in an effort to firm up a new 2 + 2 agreement that will benefit the two institutions. "This is the first program of its kind offered to DCC students wanting a career in Agriculture," said Hoagland.  "Rob and I have similar goals for our students. Through this partnership, in just four years, our students can complete both their associate's degree at DCC and an applied bachelor's degree from Olds College. We are pleased to join with Olds College to make this program available."

The process began last February as Eirich and Hoagland hosted a question and answer gathering for Ag students at DCC. The session was designed to inform students about the transferability of Dawson's Agriculture degrees to a wide variety of Olds programs.

"This August 2012 the 2 Plus 2 Agribusiness Technology transfer agreement was signed by both institutions" said Hoagland. "I was able to tour their facilities in Alberta and take a deeper look at their program. I'm very excited to offer this opportunity to future and current Dawson students. This is a chance for our students to find exceptional jobs in the field of agriculture through an Applied Bachelors of Science Degree program. Together we will be providing students more career choices and a brighter future."

Rob Eirich is an Olds Alumnus but also attend the University of Montana and is keenly aware of the transfer challenges students face moving between the US and Canada to attend college. "I have been working to build that bridge with Dawson's Ag department because I can see the seamless transferability that already exists between the two colleges. For those students interested in rodeo we are building our men's and women's teams too" Eirich added.

This new agreement is a first of its kind agreement with an out of state school for DCC. It is a welcome addition to a list of twelve - 2 plus 2 agreements already in place at DCC. Students can start their Bachelors at DCC in a host of subjects that include: Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Engineering Technology, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Earth Sciences/Geology, Education, General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nursing, Occupational Safety and Health, Pre-Pharmacy and now the new Agriculture offering.
