Buccaneer hoops recruit Deryk Pearsall

Deryk Pearsall

Deryk Pearsall, a Centerville High School standout from Sand Coulee, Montana near Great Falls, has signed his letter of intent to play basketball for Dawson Community College. He chose Dawson because the Buccaneers gave him the chance to play college basketball, a life-long dream for Pearsall.

“Deryk is an excellent shooter who is able to play many positions.” said DCC men’s basketball coach Don Mast. ‘I expect him to have an outstanding career at Dawson and look forward to seeing him on campus.”

Dawson Community College "Gallery 126" presents "Deep Contours", an exhibit of unique Abstract Paintings by Annette Marchand. The exhibit will be on display from Friday, September 27 through December 20. An artist reception for Marchand is scheduled Friday, September 27 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. As always, everyone is welcome to come meet the artist, enjoy the artwork, conversation, and refreshments. On Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Marchand will conduct an "Abstract Painting" Workshop in the Ullman Center art room.

Softball signs Utah pitcher Chezarae Garcia

"Chezarae is full of potential, and I expect her to be a dominating pitcher for the Bucs."

Chezarae Garcia has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Women's Softball for Dawson Community College. She will join Buccaneer Coach Jim LeProwse and his Region IX championship team this 2013-14 season.

Garcia, a 5'10" right-handed pitcher from Utah, is a graduate of Ogden High School. While there, she received All Area second-team and Standard Star honors for the Ogden Tigers.

Students begin returning to Dawson Community College on Sunday, Aug. 25. College. New Student Orientation welcome takes place Aug 26-27 with on-campus classes beginning Monday, Aug. 28 and all on-line classes, Sept 3.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, the campus will open its 3 residence halls, Kettner, Gibson, and Bruberg to approximately 140 full time students at 8 a.m.
Parents or guardians who are helping their new or returning student move into a residence hall are encouraged to quickly unload their vehicle, and proceed to alternative parking lots on campus.

Kendel Wilkerson to play for Lady Bucs

Kendel Wilkerson follows her passion for hoops.

Kendel Wilkerson, of Olympia, WA signed her letter of intent to play for Dawson Community College this week.

The 5'11 forward played for the Capital High School Cougars in Washington State last season. As a senior Kendel averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists per game.

Six foot Skyview High School forward, Vanessa Newman, signed with the Dawson Community College Buccaneers this week. Head coach Tracey Clingingsmith is excited. “Vanessa adds some much needed height to our squad and can play inside out. We look forward to adding this tough competitor to our squad next year.”
“I am grateful that Dawson has given me such a huge opportunity.” said Newman “I can’t wait to see what all they have to offer!”

New VB Recruit: Keturah Lund

Keturah Lund from Billings, MT.

Keturah Lund, from Billings, MT is one of the newest recruits to play for the Lady Buccaneer Volleyball team during the 2013-2014 season.  Lund received the MVP award as a freshman on the Junior Varsity team.  As a sophomore, she was awarded the MVP award of the Varsity team.  She made 1st tournament team her sophomore and senior years and 2nd team her junior year as well as All-Conference her sophomore, junior, and senior years.  Lund has been chosen to travel to London with NBC's international volleyball tour team to play volleyball for ten days this coming summer.

Intro to Dinosaur Paleontology begins July 22

Alan Brown and Jerry Jacene were on campus in preparation for the Dinosaur Paleontology class which starts July 22.

Tennessee State University Geoscience instructor Alan Brown and Jerry Jacene were on the Dawson Community College campus yesterday (July 15) in preparation for the Dinosaur Paleontology class which starts July 22.

Justin and Shawna Baisch threw their support behind DCC and the Paleo class with a generous gift of land use for the class digs.

Both Brown and Jacene are passionate about the dig and hope to make it a yearly summer class. Maps in hand they went looking at eroded land around campus for additional fossil dig sites.

New Welding Block Class Scheduling Approved

Students get hands-on experience building new welding bays at Dawson Community College.

To better serve students and industry at this time of unprecedented growth, Dawson Community College has re-energized its Welding Program to meet industry demand for qualified, certified welders. The DCC Office of Instructional Services announced this week, the start of BLOCK welding classes this Fall Semester 2013. With instructors Joshua Kreilaus and Jim LeProwse, students can learn specific welding skills in just 18 days.
