Dawson Community College’s volleyball team has been nominated for a national academic award based on a team GPA that includes three 4.0s.
Coach John Marble said the team earned a collective 3.42 in the classroom last semester, putting them in contention for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s academic team of the year award.
“It puts us solidly as a premiere team academically in the nation amongst all junior colleges,” he said, adding that the team’s GPA speaks well of players’ character.
Dawson Community College Buccaneers Baseball coach Brent Diegel is pleased to announce the signing of three Montana players to national letters of intent. The three players will join the Buccaneers squad for the 2009-2010 season.
Chris Mjelstad, a 6’1”, 195 pound senior at Billings Senior High, currently plays outfield for the Laurel Dodgers Legion club. In 49 games last season, Mjelstad batted an impressive .393 and scored 40 runs. According to Coach Diegel, “Chris is a kid who loves the game and has the size and ability we are looking for.”
Dawson Community College Head Golf Coach Robert Rowlett is pleased to announce the signing two more student athletes for the upcoming 2009-2010 golf season. Joining the Buccaneer squad for the 2009-2010 season will be Kayla Lloyd of Meridian, Idaho and Emily Thorud of Gaston, Oregon.
GLENDIVE, MONTANA-This month at DCC you can get rid of pests in your yard while you learn to create a year round plan for building a beautiful lawn and garden landscape. Emphasis will be on maintaining trees and growing flowers and vegetables in an Eastern Montana environment. Instructor Steve Moore if Sod House Sundries will walk you through your plan during the Home Landscape Workshop April 14th 21st and 24th from 6-9 pm. Cost $45.
High school age students that have training in welding technology are invited to register for the 2009 Welding Technology Contest hosted by Dawson Community College April 15th in the Ullman Center. The event begins at 8:30am and is limited to 48 participants. Prizes are supplied by local businesses.
Ray Glueckert, Head Coach of the Dawson Community College softball team, is proud to announce that sophomore Samantha Ewalt has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Dickinson State University Blue Hawks next year. DSU competes in the DAC-10 Conference of the NAIA.
The Glendive American Legion baseball program has hired Alex Rivas as its new head coach for the upcoming 2009 season. Rivas was with the Blue Devils last year as an assistant with head coach Travis Langan. Rivas also helped with the program as an assistant in 2005 when Chad Jones was the head coach for the Blue Devils.
Rivas came to Glendive from Kearns, Utah in the fall of 2003 to play college baseball at Dawson Community College. He played for Brent Diegel and the Bucs for two years. Rivas then played one season in Chicago at Olivete Nazarene University.
Brent Diegel, Head Coach of the Dawson Community College Buccaneers baseball team, is proud to announce today that sophomore catcher Jeff Allen has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the University of Texas in Brownsville. The UT-Brownsville Scorpions compete in the Red River Athletic Conference and in Region VI of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Dawson Community College will hold a Basic Computer Skills workshop from 1-4pm on Friday April 17, 2009 in room 147. Topics for this workshop include an introduction to the computer and its parts, commonly used terminology, how to turn it on and off, saving and retrieving files, Internet searching and commonly used programs.
