Aly Schieno, originally from Glendive, is one of the newest members to join the DCC's Lady Bucs volleyball team. She was born in Glendive and then moved to Dickinson, ND ten years ago, where she began her 3rd grade school year. While attending Dickinson Trinity High School, Schieno has been involved with band for three years; competed in basketball for three years, volleyball for four years, and will have participated in track and field for four years at the time of her graduation.
Schieno says her biggest accomplishments in high school were making the varsity volleyball team as a freshman and becoming a varsity starter as a sophomore. Schieno has received several awards during her high school career; earning B Honors academically, All District and All Region athletic awards for the past two years, and All State her senior year. Most recently, Schieno played in the Class B State Tournament, where Dickinson Trinity placed eighth.
When Schieno moved to Dickinson, ND, she met Dave and Kay Moody who influenced her to start learning the sport of volleyball. "If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here right now," says Schieno. She participated in a variety of volleyball camps and club teams, along with Dave and Kay's daughter, Ali Moody.
Schieno chose to attend Dawson Community College for a variety of reasons. During a tour of the college, she liked the small class sizes and was really impressed with the campus dorms. Glendive is also close to her home in Dickinson and she has family living here in town. Overall, Schieno stated that she "felt like this is the right place." She plans on majoring in Forensic Science and Criminal Justice. She is super excited to have the opportunity to play at the next level. Also, to play with the ladies rather than just watch college ball from the stands. The best advice given to Schieno over the years is to never give up, to play your absolute hardest, to be a leader, and to be respectful.
DCC's Head Volleyball Coach, John Marble says, "Aly is a great competitor that finds ways to score points and plays great defense. We look forward to having her on the team."
