Glendive Historic Bus Tour
The Glendive Historic Bus Tour begins September 10 at 1 pm on the south side of the Old Bell Street Bridge and continues to the corner by the Krug house, then down Kendrick and back up Meade. The bus will return to the bridge at 2:30pm. This is a FREE event sponsored by Dawson Community College. The tour will be given by Avis Anderson and Eileen Melby. There are 22 seats available. Sudden Passing of Tom Speechley, Instructor
Tom Speechley, instructor of history, passed away August 8, 2011 while visiting his family in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Mr. Speechley had been with the college for seven years. He came to Dawson from Oregon and was anxious to teach history at the collegiate level. During his time with us, he was a favorite of many students. His seemingly gruff exterior was coupled with a passion for his craft--he loved to teach. A battered, spiral notebook crammed with annotations, torn sheets, and stained pages accompanied him to every class.
Sidney Agriculture leadership program begins
For the 14th straight year, the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is offering a leadership program to help create leaders and better business individuals in the community.
“It helps a new business person to be informative about the community” Wade VanEvery, chamber executive director, said. “It provides a way for them to acquire information that can help their business and hopefully the community.”
He notes younger leaders are needed in the area to take over the reigns and some responsibilities.
Aaron Carroll ~ NEW head baseball coach at DCC
Aaron Carroll will become head coach of the Buccaneer baseball program this fall. Coach Carroll brings ten years of baseball collegiate coaching experience to DCC. He spent the last seven years as head coach of Chowan University which is a NCAA Division II program in Murfreesboro, NC.
DCC Women's basketball signs Taylure Svejkovsky
BUTTE, Mont. — Former Butte Central guard Taylure Svejkovsky (sheh-KAHV'-skee) has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Dawson Community College in Glendive.
Svejkovsky averaged just under 2 points per game as Central won the Class A state championship this winter and was a key contributor on defense, but she hadn't planned on playing basketball in college.
Svejkovsky tells The Montana Standard says she made up her mind late last month to join coach Tracey Clingingsmith's team.

Jaci Hanley, All-State First Baseman, Signs With the Lady Bucs
BUTTE, Mont. — Recent Butte High graduate Jaci Hanley says she has signed a scholarship offer to play softball at Dawson Community College in Glendive.
Hanley was an all-state first baseman as Butte High won the state Class AA championship this spring. She is also a designated hitter and outfielder and batted .328 as a senior.
Dawson head coach Jim LeProwse, a former Butte Central assistant, tells The Montana Standard he is also considering using Hanley as a pitcher.

Dawson Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced that Dawson Community College women’s volleyball team was among those to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2010-2011 season. “Our Lady Buccaneers are one of only 12, two year schools in the nation to receive the award” said DCC Coach John Marble. “I am proud of their exceptional effort! They maintained a 3.34 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during the school year.”
Dickinson State signs Buccaneer James Steen
The Dickinson State men’s basketball team has announced the signing of four players for the 2011-12 season.
Former 6'-4" Buccaneer Forward James Steen was one of the players selected for next years Hawk squad.
Steen, originally from Detroit averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds per game for Dawson Community College and possesses the ability to play multiple positions.
Advance Registration July 21
Advanced registration is a day set aside for new and transfer students (and their guests) to view campus, take placement tests, take ID photos, learn about student services, and register for fall semester classes.
Attendees have already filled out an admission application form and been processed into the Dawson Community College system.
