The MATHCOUNTS Competition Program is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools.
The 2013 MATHCOUNTS competition is coming up on Tuesday, February 5 at Dawson Community College. As usual, DCC needs some volunteers to make this a successful event for students. Mike Hunter, mathematics professor, is looking for people who can proctor and hand out tests from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and people to correct tests from 9:30 a.m. until noon (or whenever they are done).
In the afternoon volunteers can help with the countdown round and awards ceremony. Any time volunteers can spare is greatly appreciated. No math knowledge is necessary to correct the MATHCOUNTS tests. College students are also welcome. Contact Mike Hunter @ 377-9433 or email: [email protected]. The first ten volunteers get a free t-shirt.
The schools who are registered are: East Fairview Elementary, Frontier Elementary School (Wolf Point), Glasgow Middle School, Lambert Public School, Lustre Grade School (Frazer), Terry Public Schools, and Washington Middle School (Glendive). There should be about 50 contestants.
