The ASB gets involved. This year Associated Student Body has joined in and added video to the contest. In the video medium, you can make a short film video style and show us what you've got! What entertaining, crazy, fun, even educational scenes can you envision? How can you make those images come to life in moving pictures? The video only needs to be 1 to 10 minutes long. Entrants can collaborate in video. And you can enter one video in each of the 4 categories: Dance, Music, Harlem Shake and Today's Topic. In still photography, there are opportunities to enter 1 to 3 photographs in any of the 3 categories: DCC Activities and People; Landscape and Still Life; and Photo Fantasy. For instance, you can enter 3 photos in one category, or 2 photos in one category and one in another, or one in each category. The categories in both still photography and video are open to your inspiration. Get going and let your creative juices flow.
"I can't resist, but to inaugurate the DCC Second Annual Photo and (First Annual) Video Contest with a few quotes." said Gretchen Bederman head of DCC's Visual Arts Department.
"Life is like a camera; focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if it goes wrong . . . take another shot." -Anonymous
"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs." -Ansel Adams. "A photographer is like a cod, which produces a million eggs in order that one may reach maturity." - George Bernard Shaw.
"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again." - Henri Cartier-Bresson.
"Everyone loves to take photographs and everyone loves to look at photographs. Everyone can be involved. Let's celebrate life at DCC in photographs." -Joyce Ayre, brain-child of this all-school event. Photographs and videos will be on display in the Main Building Hallway Gallery from April 15 through May 6. Be sure to make a point of coming up the hill to see what I predict will be a great exhibit. Prizes will be presented at the ASB Annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, May 1.
