Meet the Region IX Champions!

The softball game played in Columbus, NE, Monday May 6, resulted in a win and a first-time REGION IX CHAMPIONSHIP for the Dawson Community College Lady Buccaneers.

Athletic Director, Joyce Ayre, announced an enthusiastic "Congratulations!" today to the Lady Buc student-athletes, coach Jim LeProwse and assistant coach Kim Crone.

The Buccaneers went 3-0 in the tournament and defeated Central Columbus Community College 4-3 in the championship game.

Jamie Aiken, a freshman from Ogden, Utah, pitched a complete-game five-hitter for DCC in the title game. She struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Aiken also pitched a complete game in Dawson’s 6-3 win over CCCC in the first round.

Bryce Mitchell, also a freshman from Ogden, had a two-run homer for the Buccaneers in the championship game.

Justine Taylor, a freshman from Belgrade, led Dawson in the tournament with five hits. Keela Nedens, a sophomore from Billings West, had four hits.

The Buccaneers now head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the district tournament on Thursday and Friday.
