Jessica Willick, from Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan has recently signed her letter of intent to participate on the DCC Rodeo Team for the 2013-2014 season.
Willick competes in breakaway roping, goat tying, barrel racing, and team roping. She has won several awards during her high school rodeo career. She was the 2010 Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Association Breakaway Roping Champion. In 2011, Willick was the SHSRA Goat Tying Champion, Breakaway Roping Reserve Champion, 5th overall Team Roping Heeler. In 2012, she was the SHSRA Goat Typing Reserve Champion, 4th overall in Breakaway Roping, and 6th overall Team Roping Heeler. Over the years of 2010-2012, she was chosen for the Cinch All-Star Team. She was also the SHSRA Student Vice President during the 2012-2013 rodeo season. Willick has also received many academic awards and honors. She is an honor roll student and a member of the student leadership committee. She has also participated on the Blaine Lake Composite High School volleyball team during the 2010-2012 seasons. She was chosen as team captain for both the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Head Coach Kortney Diegel says, "Jess's strengths and abilities in the sport of rodeo expand beyond the events she works, as she plays an active role in her family's rodeo stock contracting business. Jess is a strong competitor who will continue to be successful at the college level. She is a great addition to our program and I am very excited to have her on our women's team. Willick's parents are Elaine Bella and Cliff Willick.
JD Steen of Lemars, Iowa will join the DCC Rodeo team for the 2013-2014 rodeo season. Steen is a steer wrestler from Lemars Community High School. He currently sits 3rd in the steer wrestling in the Iowa High School Rodeo Association standings. He is an honor roll student who was also chosen as the homecoming king at his high school. Steen has participated in varsity wrestling for four years and is and All-Conference Wrestler. Coach Diegel states," JD is an athletic cowboy, with family ties to the area. He is a strong addition to our men's team and we look forward to having him in our program." JD's parents are John and Ida Steen. His grandfather is Walt Hinebauch of Glendive, MT.
