"Dawson Community College Buccaneer softball is sitting at 9 and 0 in the MonDak Conference" said Head Coach Jim LeProwse. DCC recently completed the first half of their MonDak conference schedule with a 6 game series with Bismarck State. The Lady Buccaneers won all 6 games over the past weekend. In Game 1 the Buccaneers won 17-0 in 5 innings and compiled 13 hits. Nicole Miller from Billings, MT, Remick Ramsey from Great Falls, MT, Julia Robinson from Butte, MT and Abby Gordon from Lewistown, MT all had 2 hits a piece. In game 2 the Bucs won 13-0 in five innings.
The annual fundraiser for the Women’s and Men’s Basketball Programs at Dawson Community College is scheduled for Thursday, April 5 through Saturday, April 7, 2011. This coed tournament is five on five and full court. Teams must have at least two females on the floor at all times and picking up college players is encouraged. Team members must be 16 years of age or older and all games will have at least two officials. Teams will be guaranteed three games for their $200 registration fee and rosters are due by the April 1st. We will also host a 3-point and dunk contest.
As the finale of The Opus Society’s 3rd annual Dawson Idol heated up, the contestants pulled out all the stops on the way to the title. Contestants for the night included Christel Enriquez, Ryan Doll, Staci Weidner, Joni Ruffatto, Miona Mijalkovic, Paige Alexander, LoriAnn Church, Liz Riley, Morgan Martell, Zach Zilkoski, Tia Phipps, Kylee Snapp, and Tate Traeger.
Dawson Idol returns Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the DCC auditorium featuring talent from Glendive and the surrounding area. Judges include past DCC students Zach Umback, winner of Idol I, Marlon Tibbs, DCC basketball coach, and A’Lynn Shields, Opus Society member. In addition, DCC music ensembles and previous Idol entrants Charlie Denison and Zach Umback will provide entertainment while the votes are cast and counted. Mr. Denison will visit with aspiring musicians about his recent recording experience.
Dawson Community College Gallery 126 is pleased to present "The Great Great Plains Goes Pop" paintings by William Charles Harbort A.K.A. Billy Chuck March 23 through May 10. Bill will be conducting a Collage Workshop on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (register online: www.dawson.edu/workshops or call Marilyn: 377-9450). There will be an artist reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 23. As always, everyone is welcome to come meet the artist, enjoy the artwork, conversation, and refreshments. DCC student Tyler Chamberlain demonstrated his A-game Friday, March 23 when the Circle H.S. Music Technology students visited campus. Tyler gave a one hour hands-on short course to Tiel Hart, Naomi Nagel and their teacher, Steven Kotson. Students performed and recorded in the DCC studio, while Tyler demonstrated the capabilities of various software used in the DCC Music Tech program. It truly was service learning at its best and a great relationship was developed between the two music programs.
Ron Conrad's direction of "A Nice Family Gathering," a comedy by Phil Olson, is a welcome summons to witness the chaos of a dysfunctional family reunion, complete with a patriarchal ghost.
With the signing of Heather Schmidt, a second volleyball stand-out from Great Falls MT, Dawson Community College volleyball head coach John Marble has added more talent to his Buccaneer roster.
