To better serve students and industry at this time of unprecedented growth, Dawson Community College has re-energized its Welding Program to meet industry demand for qualified, certified welders. The DCC Office of Instructional Services announced this week, the start of BLOCK welding classes this Fall Semester 2013. With instructors Joshua Kreilaus and Jim LeProwse, students can learn specific welding skills in just 18 days.
August 28, in the Ullman Center welding Lab, students seeking good-paying jobs in the Metal Trades Industry, will begin their first 18 day block. “We teach all major weld processes; Stick, MIG, TIG, Flux-core, Oxy-fuel on
mild steel, stainless, and aluminum; hand and automated plasma cutting; and Oxy-Acetylene / Oxy-Propylene flame cutting with specialized classes in pipe welding and fitting; structural and repair fabrication; and mobile field welding with on-site projects.” said Kreilaus “
BLOCK welding classes are 18 days long and run between 8 a.m. and noon. Some classes are 2 hours and some are the whole morning. Welders who need credentials in a particular skill or students seeking entry into the Metal Trades Industry, with a degree or certificate, are encouraged to sign up. "If you're a welder or someone who wants credentials for a new skill, you can take the BLOCK class that
interests you anytime it's offered. If you're a degree seeker, the BLOCK classes are sequential and must be taken in order along with a few other curriculum requirements." Kreilaus cautioned. "You can't hold off until Spring semester to start a degree or certificate."
"There are 16 spots available. Students are signing up now. Welding is a rewarding career you can take almost anywhere in the world." said Kreilaus. "Apply with admissions and be part our first BLOCK. Small class sizes and new welding bays are an advantage to students as they learn valuable welding skills and fabrication techniques hands-on."
