TAACCCT grant provides over $500,000 for programs


The Montana Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education in partnership with administrators, faculty, and staff at Montana's 2-year colleges wrote a grant application for the United States Department of Labor's Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant program (TAACCCT). Dawson Community College president, Mike Simon, reported a successful outcome last Friday. The US Department of Labor awarded Montana $25 million to fund the grant proposal.

Hoagland invited to serve on State Career & Technical Education Board

Dawson Community College announced this week that Leanne Hoagland, Agribusiness Program Director, is serving on the State Career and Technical Education Board this 2013-2014. The Montana Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE) and the Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) extended the invitation to Hoagland.

Alumnus Emily Prouty gives recital at MSU-B

Emily Prouty was involved with the band, choir, and drum line programs at DCC.

Emily Prouty, trumpet, will be giving her senior recital in fulfillment of the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 7:30 pm in Cisel Hall on the University campus.

Montana Repertory Theater presents:

September 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Toepke Center - DCC Auditorium Mark Twain's Diaries of Adam and Eve.

Montana Repertory Theatre's Educational Outreach Tour is bringing to the stage Mark Twain's humorous and touching account of the Creation Story, in an adaptation by Ron Fitzgerald. Directed by Andy Meyers, Artistic Director of the Fort Peck Summer Theatre, this three-person show stars Caitlin McRae, Jamie Parnell, and Ryan Luwe (who is also the company stage manager).

Coming to Dawson Community College on September 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Toepke Center - DCC Auditorium Mark Twain's Diaries of Adam and Eve. The play is FREE.

Reserve Officer Training starts September 27

Dino Paleontology - A Summer of Discoveries

First day of class.

Geoscience instructor Alan Brown, from Tennessee State University, provided an update this week about the Introduction to Dinosaur Paleontology course he taught at Dawson Community College in Glendive this past July. He shared details about the class and what they found in the Badlands surrounding Glendive.
"The Paleontology class went great! All the students did well and enjoyed the experience." said Brown. "Unfortunately we did not find any bones on the school's property. We did, however, find a lot on the Baisch ranch property.

Amy Hienen Aces the Vote

Dawson Community College volleyball coach Gerry Standridge announced this week that #9 Amy Van Hienen was voted to the Sheridan Classic All Tournament Team. She had 5 aces, 10 blocks and 33 digs during the four matches that took place September 6 and 7. Hienen, an outside hitter for the Buccaneers, is a sophomore from Castor, AB Canada.

College Fair Gives Students an Opportunity

DCC will Host MPSEOC Sept 12 from 1 to 2:30pm

Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana will hold a MPSEOC Fair Wednesday, September 11, from 1 to 2:30pm. Students interested in attending DCC can visit with John Dershem-Bruce, DCC Admissions Counselor at the fair in Toepke Center Gym.  

Buccaneer Baseball Underway

Baseball vs Gillette 9-7@2pm and 9-8@10 am

The Dawson Community College baseball team opened fall practice on Monday, September 1st.  Head coach Aaron Carroll, who is starting his third season at DCC, has several new faces on the field this year.  Carroll said, “I believe we had a great recruiting year.  I was able to get out and see a lot of kids this past spring and summer.  It always takes time to make quality contacts in the recruiting world.  We were able to bring in 17 new players this year and I have 8 returners.”
