Inaugural One-Pitch Tournament Scheduled for Early October
Dawson Community College’s Kolberg Field will host the first annual One-Pitch Slugfest. DCC’s women’s basketball and softball players are joining forces to organize a one-pitch co-ed softball tournament October 10-11, 2009. The tournament registration fee is $200 and rosters and fees are due Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
Teams will be guaranteed four games and games will be limited to 45 minutes. In a one pitch tournament each batter will come to the plate with a full count. There will be prizes for top teams and all proceeds benefit DCC athletics.
Buccaneers win first home match ever
The Buccaneer volleyball team made program history Tuesday night at the Toepke Center, winning its first home match ever in a five-set thriller against Dakota College at Bottineau.
"It is fabulous to win our first ever home match and our fourth match on the season," said Coach John Marble. "This is a match that we expected ourselves to win."
Senior Academy Computer Basics Workshop
The first Senior Academy class hosted through Dawson Community College met with success September 22nd and 23rd at the Glendive Senior Center. The Academy was begun at the request of local seniors who participated in focus groups and surveys given by Dawson Community College as a way of developing classes to meet their unique needs and interests. The inaugural class in the “Tech Time for Seniors” series was Basic Cell Phone Operation and filled quickly.
DCC student Jordan Larson receives FFA’s highest honor
Brent Nelson head of Welding Technology at Dawson Community College is proud to announce that DCC Ag Mechanics student Jordan Larson of Miles City Montana will be traveling to Indianapolis in October to attend the 82nd National FFA Convention.
“Lead Out Loud” is the 2009 convention theme as 55,000 of today’s FFA leaders from all 50 states gather in Indianapolis to celebrate. Members will engage in the National Days of Service and take part in interactive workshops, thrilling competitions and an action-packed career show.
DCC volleyball team taking Little Bucs registrations, mini-camp planned
The Dawson Community College volleyball team is taking registrations for its Little Bucs fan club for kids in grades K-5. A mini-camp has been scheduled to kick off the season for the club following the home game beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.
DCC Volleyball headed to North Dakota
The Dawson Community College volleyball team is headed to North Dakota this weekend for a triangular tournament at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, and Coach John Marble said his team is ready to snap a string of losses.
"We are excited to be playing at Trinity this weekend," he said. "This weekend provides us with a great opportunity to pick up some wins."
The Lady Bucs will be competing against Trinity and the Jamestown College JV team.
Volleyball Freshman stands out at the net; Veteran returns to the program
The last two weeks have been full of surprises for the Lady Buccaneers; between the return of a member of last year's inaugural team, introduction of an unexpected new player and emergence of a freshman as a leader at the net, the Dawson Community College squad hasn't had a dull moment.

Bucs threaten upset against Wahpeton; lose thriller
The Lady Buccaneer volleyball team was within two points of upsetting last year's Mon-Dak conference champions Monday night, barely conceding the thriller against the North Dakota State College of Science after five hard-fought sets of play.
"It was a battle right down to the end," said John Marble, head volleyball coach at Dawson Community College. "It was a good way to open the conference."
Play and Art Therapy workshop
The Early Childhood Education Department at Dawson Community College will present a workshop on Play and Art Therapy, September 26, 2009, in Room 105 at the Ullman Center. Gregory Holler-Dinsmore will conduct the workshop.
Gregory Holler-Dinsmore, M.Div., M.S., LCPPC is pastor at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point, on the adjunct faculty at Fort Peck Community College, and a private practice licensed professional counselor. He’s a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Play Therapy, and Sandplay Therapists of America.
