The goal of the Montana Wyoming Tribal Housing Coalition is to provide assistance to the tribal housing entities in Montana, as well as increase housing opportunities for urban American Indians. The purpose of the Coalition is to share information and provide cross-tribal training and capacity building among the reservations in Montana, resulting in increased housing availability and affordability on Montana's reservations. In order to achieve success, the tribal housing entities must work together and learn from each other to capitalize on the strengths and knowledge within the state. The Coalition's goal is for each tribal housing entity and reservation to have a robust housing program including both rental and homeownership programs.
The VISTA project will complete project activities meant to build capacity on Montana and Wyoming's reservations by improving the availability and affordability of housing. The VISTA will work closely with members lo conduct relevant research to develop a website for the MWTHC, organize homebuyer education classes and think of creative ways to expand homebuyer education on reservations, pursue funding through grants and applying for other federal housing programs, provide technical assistance to tribal housing authorities, and conduct other special projects aimed at increasing housing availability throughout the reservations.
