Dawson Community College is celebrating National TRiO Day with an open house February 27th from 10am-2pm in the Mid-Rivers Academic Support Center adjacent to the Jane Carey Memorial Library on the DCC campus. Kent Dion, Director of the Mid-Rivers Academic Support Center and his staff will host with cookies and refreshments.
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program designed to increase retention, graduation, GPAs, and transfer rates of disadvantaged college students. All of these services are free to DCC students.
If you are a student or parent and want to find out more about the free academic assistance available when you start college, Kent will be here to answer questions about free testing, tutoring, academic advising as well as services like laptop computer checkout, disability services, student advocacy, campus visits, and grant aid. He can also give you an idea about available study rooms, private testing rooms, and computer lab for all DCC students.
Sometimes it takes a little help to turn a “B” into an “A” or a “D” into a “C.” Kent and his Student Support Services team dedicate every day to helping students make the grade. Study skills, computer skills, and reading skills are the cornerstones of success at DCC. Tutoring and mentoring from staff in fundamentals build on that foundation.
