The MATHCOUNTS® competition is coming to Dawson Community College again on February 18th from 9am to 3pm. DCC will host about 34 middle school students from 6 different schools: Wolf Point, Frazer, Richey, Volberg, Terry, and Glendive. The competition will be held in the practice gym on the DCC campus.
MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment, coaching & competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state & territory. In its 26th year, MATHCOUNTS® is one of the most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors & students.
Thousands of teachers use the free MATHCOUNTS® curriculum materials to supplement classroom materials or as an extracurricular activity. Those wishing to fully capitalize on the ability of the creative MATHCOUNTS® materials to challenge students & motivate them to develop strong math skills also participate in the MATHCOUNTS® competition series.
Schools select students to compete individually or as part of a team in one of the more than 500 written & oral competitions held nationwide. Top students advance to the state, & ultimately, national level. MATHCOUNTS® challenges students' math skills, develops their self-confidence & rewards them for their achievements.
Mike Hunter, mathematics instructor at Dawson Community College, needs volunteers to help with the MATHCOUNTS® competition. “You do not need any math skills” said Hunter. “The answers are given in a specific form and all you have to do is make sure that they match”. Contact Mike at 377-3396 if you are interested in helping correct math papers between the hours of 8:30 am to about 2:00 or 2:30 pm on February 18th”.
