Tryouts for the Dawson Community College volleyball team brought several aspiring players on campus Monday for their chance to earn a spot on the Lady Buccaneers’ roster.
Coach John Marble said it was a fun day in the gym.
“It was great to be in the gym with a wonderful group of athletes and playing volleyball,” he said. “I appreciate the players that came and played today.”
Students from Wolf Point, Ballantine and Jordan participated, and Marble said he saw some good potential.
The fall roster is at seven so far with four new recruits and three returners.
Garfield County District High School Senior Alyson Murnion signed with the Lady Buccaneers last week, joining Yellowstone County Senior Amanda Little, Hardin Senior Kirby Sabec and Cascade County Senior Amanda Krone on the list of freshman recruits for the Bucs.
Canadian hitter Amanda Shadbolt is expected to return to the team this fall, along with setter Terah Lund of Huntley and hitter Melissa Yarbrough of Eugene, Ore.
Both Shadbolt and Lund spent time on the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national rankings, Shadbolt for service aces and Lund for assists.
The Bucs finished their inaugural season in November with the NJCAA’s number one ace server, sophomore Ruth Johnson, who has verbally committed to continue her volleyball career at a Division II school in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Marble said recruiting efforts for the fall are still underway, and he encourages any interested players who were unable to attend Monday’s tryout to contact him by calling (406) 377-9498 or e-mailing [email protected]
