Dawson Community College Buccaneers Baseball coach Brent Diegel is pleased to announce the signing of three Montana players to national letters of intent. The three players will join the Buccaneers squad for the 2009-2010 season.
Chris Mjelstad, a 6’1”, 195 pound senior at Billings Senior High, currently plays outfield for the Laurel Dodgers Legion club. In 49 games last season, Mjelstad batted an impressive .393 and scored 40 runs. According to Coach Diegel, “Chris is a kid who loves the game and has the size and ability we are looking for.”
Another Laurel Dodgers player making his way to the DCC roster is shortstop Joe Binstock. The 5’2”, 130 pound Binstock is also a student at Billings Senior. “Joe is a switch hitter, and though he is small in stature, he plays the game with great intensity,” says Coach Diegel. Binstock earned All-State honors in the 2008 Class A state tournament.
Also signing was right handed pitcher Anthony Kuntz. At 6’2” and 185 pounds, the Laurel High School product brings both size and athleticism to the Buccaneers pitching staff. “He is another player with size on his side,” says Coach Diegel. “With a little fine tuning his ability will prove a formidable force in the DCC rotation.” Last season, Kuntz made 18 appearances, throwing 30 1/3 innings for the AA Legion Champion Billings Scarlets. He earned a 4-0 record and added 1 save.
