Dawson Community College baseball coach Brent Diegel is very excited to announce the signing of Tanner Newman for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The 6 foot 1 inch, 170 pound Newman, who bats from the left side and throws right-handed, is from Bozeman, Montana. He redshirted as a freshman at Tacoma Community College last season.
As a member of the 2007 Legion State AA Champion Bozeman Bucks, Newman posted an impressive .364 average and .692 slugging percentage while hitting five homeruns, 12 doubles, scoring 42 times and driving in 36 runs in just 107 at-bats. He also exhibited patience at the plate and speed on the base paths, drawing 20 walks and stealing 13 bases. On the mound, Tanner earned a 9-1 record while posting an impressive 56:19 K:BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings of work. He threw first pitch strikes to more than 60% of the batters he faced. According to Coach Diegel, "Tanner will bring experience and talent to next year’s squad. He is capable of playing in the outfield, at the corner infield positions, and pitching. Offensively, Tanner brings power and average from the left side. He will be a great asset to the program.”
