A TASTE OF DAWSON 2010
The Opus Society proudly presents A Taste of Dawson, August 28th from 9 AM - 3 PM, on the Dawson Community College campus in Glendive, MT. Each year over 250 new student residents are welcomed into the community with live music, businesses, food, student groups, culture, and of course the community!
The competition is heating up with the fiery BBQ THROWDOWN. Local celebrity barbecue extraordinaires have been put to the ultimate challenge to face off in head to head battle where the community decides which team goes home with the title of THROWDOWN champion! Can the City of Glendive Fire Department fight off the fierce completion and defend their title?
Early team entries include Jerry Jimison and company, City of Glendive Fire Department’s Russell Feisthamel, Ty Helmuth, and Rhett Coon, Reynolds Market comprised of John Paul Baker, Kevin McGovern, Sari Hunter, and Tara Scarpholt, and DCC Alumni lead by Craig Christianson.
The ever so popular Giggle Zone is back from 10 AM - 2 PM for kids of all ages with arts and crafts, face painting, chalk on the walk, and more. All guaranteed to make you smile!
There are also a variety of health and wellness events in which to participate this year; featuring a 5k road race starting at 9 am on DCC’s beautiful campus and extending through the spectacular Makoshika State Park. Entries for non-DCC students are $5, DCC students compete free!
3 on 3 co-ed basketball and frisbee golf tournaments will kick off at 10 am. Co-ed 3 on 3 basketball individual and team entry forms are available online or event day entry is possible starting at 8 am. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to enter and a registration fee of $5 per non-DCC student or $20 per non-DCC student team. DCC student participants are free. The Frisbee golf tournament is free but must be 18 years of age or older to enter. All winners will be announced at 2 pm following the BBQ “Throwdown”.
Local music sensations Robin and Cami Sue Heck, Crissa Diede, Craig Christianson, Mandy Jo Fulton, Charlie Denison, Stephanie Hushka, CarrieSue Kunst, Sarah Hegel, Katie Goreman, Audree Garsjo, Darby Goreman, Stylles Fischer, Damion Taylor, Diona Osterman-Api, My Fading Eyes, the Hauk family, and many more will be the featured entertainment throughout the day beginning at 10 AM.
