The Dawson Community College Student Senate will commemorate the unique and passionate life of beloved history and humanities instructor Tom Speechley with a dodge ball tournament in his name Saturday, October 8 at 10am. Mr. Speechley passed away this past August in Cape Cod.
“Tom used to joke with me on a yearly basis that he would like to see a "Faculty/Staff vs. Students" dodge ball game” said biology instructor and ASB coordinator Kevin Pena “This is our chance celebrate the memory of our late colleague and community member in a way that I think he would appreciate.”
“This is a COMMUNITY-WIDE EVENT, so please help spread the word. Anyone can build a team and compete” said Pena.
“Friday October 7 we will be holding a Team Registration BBQ in the Student Center located in the main building on campus. We will be serving food provided by the Yellowstone River Inn and taking registrations from 6pm to 8:30 pm”.
“Saturday October 8 there will be another opportunity to register a team at 9am. The “Tom Speechly Memorial Dodge Ball Tournament” play begins at 10am. Play ends when a champion has emerged.
‘Teams will consist of 5 people, and registration is $25 per team” said Pena. “The winning team will split $100 cash. The team with best uniforms will split $50 cash.”
Proceeds will go towards the purchase of a seat in the Toepke gym in Tom's name, and any additional monies will go towards the establishment of a scholarship in his name.
