Students begin returning to Dawson Community College on Sunday, Aug. 25. College. New Student Orientation welcome takes place Aug 26-27 with on-campus classes beginning Monday, Aug. 28 and all on-line classes, Sept 3.
On Thursday, Aug. 25, the campus will open its 3 residence halls, Kettner, Gibson, and Bruberg to approximately 140 full time students at 8 a.m.
Parents or guardians who are helping their new or returning student move into a residence hall are encouraged to quickly unload their vehicle, and proceed to alternative parking lots on campus.
Things to know about the Student Living Complex; although apartments are furnished don’t forget to bring an alarm clock, hangers, pillow, bed linens, bath towels, kitchen utensils, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, small appliances. State health policies do not allow students to keep pets.
After students settle in, Monday, August 26 and Tuesday, August 27, DCC staff and faculty provide a formal, mandatory orientation to acquaint new and transfer students with the policies and organization of the school. Placement tests, campus information sessions and group advising are some of the activities that take place during Orientation.
Students can meet with a faculty advisor during this time to arrange a class schedule for the semester if needed. The student and advisor work cooperatively to plan the student's course of study so that the student enrolls in courses, which meet the students goals.
Orientation welcome conclude on August 27 with the second volleyball game of the season. On the DCC campus in Toepke Center at 7 p.m. everyone is invited cheer on the Lady Bucs as they take on Sheridan College in an exciting match up.
